2597 Days since retiring July 1, 2005!

"Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present."

Read on and fall sound asleep

What a lousy gut grinding day. I woke this morning to one of the grandsons screaming “Granddad Grannie needs to go to the emergency room!” When I got to her she was in her chair in the kitchen slumped over into the sink and screaming in pain. The symptoms she described, pain on her left side into her back, tightness like a band around her diaphragm area and feeling like she was about to vomit, said “HEART ATTACK”. I got dressed then had to watch her slowly struggle into her clothes and shoes because she did not want an ambulance with all its hubbub. We got to the ER with her rocking in pain and silently, mostly, screaming. Of course the ER was full of people like us and people with no insurance who use the ER like a doctor’s visit. After the triage staff took her vitals they put a wrist band on her and directed us to the waiting area. Despite my fearand because of my inability to relieve her pain I fell to watching the people. A very attactive tall slim young black woman came in exhibiting pain either in her hand or mouth. She was holding her left hand in front of her mouth. She had the air of a professional person like doctor or lawyer or etc. Pretty women are a joy. My wife started a conversation with a woman working on a Sodoku puzzle. She was setting behind me and for one fearful moment I was afraid we were going to be afflicted by a “talker”.

After an hour a nurse came and took my wife to one of the examination rooms. After further fumbling and confusion I went home to charge the batteries on her scooter and to feed and water Rascal. While I was home the dishwasher/refrigerator man showed up with only the parts to fix the dishwasher. He did order some more parts for the brand new Whirlpool refrigerator. This purchase has sure soured us on Lowes appliances. The repair man called me in and said he could not repair the washer because he could not get it from under the counter. Turns out the tile man cut the ceramic tile to butt against the feet of the dishwasher. It never crossed my mind that might be a future problem. The repairman went over the installation process for the new repair parts and left. It was now up to me to get the damn thing out so I could turn it on its side and install the heater. Finally senior grandson and I used a heavy duty walking stick to pry the washer us and wiggled it out of its space. Tomorrow morning I will install the repair parts and put it back in place. I have to do that early because I need to leave at noon for a play in Winedale. Or I might just decide to waste the $10 for the ticket and just attend the 7:30 pm.

Finally I returned to the hospital and learned she was passing a kidney stone. Eventually the doctor gave her prescriptions for more antibiotics and pain medication. At 10 pm I walked through the living room and found her sound asleep in her recliner. The last 3 years has been one medical problem after another for her. And I can do nothing about it.
