2414 Days since retiring July 1, 2005!

"I WENT TO A BOOKSTORE AND ASKED THE SALESWOMAN, "WHERE'S THE SELF- HELP SECTION?". SHE SAID IF SHE TOLD ME, IT WOULD DEFEAT THE PURPOSE."

Read on and fall sound asleep

I love the Kindle my wife gave me for Christmas. It is the best sleep aid since newly-wed sex! Remember that?

I started accumulating ideas for this thing on Monday. When I opened the draft6 tonight to record the ice cold drizzling rain I found my note about the impressive thunderstorms Monday morning. Now I am really worried about my mind because I had completely forgotten that storm.
“Tremendous thunderstorm from 6:30 TO 7:40 AM. Thunder shook the manor to its very foundation. Lightening lit up the sky from horizon to horizon. I suppose the drought is now “officially” over.”

I think I’ll look up some of those “brain foods”.

Again I am in a stretch of days where each is like the preceding. The only way I can tell one day from the next is to check my pillbox and crosscheck that against the calendar. My mind wanders during these featureless days. So I have copied all my music CDs to my iTunes directory on my computer. Many of the songs refer to days past which set my wondering mind to digging through the file cabinets of my mind. It is awfully dusty up there. I put together a string of pictures from my past with a song we sing in the Praise Service at my Church. I had intended to make the package a lead up to and celebration of my Emmaus experience but found myself running out of music before pictures. Click on My life and times to watch the Youtube video. No I don’t mind looking like a rank amateur.

1 There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined.

2 Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore.

3 Mortals put an end to the darkness; they search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness.

4 Far from human dwellings they cut a shaft, in places untouched by human feet; far from other people they dangle and sway.

5 The earth, from which food comes, is transformed below as by fire;

6 lapis lazuli comes from its rocks, and its dust contains nuggets of gold.

7 No bird of prey knows that hidden path, no falcon’s eye has seen it.

8 Proud beasts do not set foot on it, and no lion prowls there.

9 People assault the flinty rock with their hands and lay bare the roots of the mountains.

10 They tunnel through the rock; their eyes see all its treasures.

11 They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light.

12 But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell?

13 No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.

14 The deep says, “It is not in me”; the sea says, “It is not with me.”

15 It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed out in silver.

16 It cannot be bought with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or lapis lazuli.

17 Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it, nor can it be had for jewels of gold.

18 Coral and jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies.

19 The topaz of Cush cannot compare with it; it cannot be bought with pure gold.

20 Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell?

21 It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds in the sky.

22 Destruction and Death say, “Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.”

23 God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells,

24 for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.

25 When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters,

26 when he made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm,

27 then he looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it.

28 And he said to the human race, “The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”

2/2: Gracious God, thank you for valuing a close relationship with us. Thank you for cherishing us ordinary people as your own. Amen
2/3: O God, when we feel too broken to ever mend, surround us with your love. Amen.
2/4: Touch our hearts, Father of all, that we may respond quickly where you need us. Amen.
2/5: Heavenly Father, help us to see what hinders our relationship with you and with others. Bring us to repentance so that you can restore us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
2/6: Divine Creator, when we feel small and insignificant, help us to remember that you made us and that you loved us enough to send your only son for our redemption. Amen.
2/7: Dear Lord, we want to be able to draw on experiences of your faithfulness when troubles come. Teach us to remember you above all else. Amen.
2/8: Loving God, help us to do what is right in your eyes and to be faithful to you. Amen.
2/9: Gracious God, renew our faith each day. In you, we want for nothing. We pray as Jesus taught us, saying, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”*

Down in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, Boudreaux gets a job with BP helping with the cleanup.

He reports for work and is told to speak to a supervisor about his assignment.

He finds the man and asks, "What it is I supposed to do?"

The supervisor tells him to go to the animal shelter and clean the pelicans.

Two hours later, Boudreaux comes up to the supervisor and says,"Okay. dey all cleaned.

You want me to cook some rice?"

It might help reading but definitely not thinking. Once again it appears some big brain “over thought” a simple idea.

”All action is for the sake of some end; and rules of action, it seems natural to suppose, must take their whole character and color from the end to which they are subservient. ”
