2341 Days since retiring July 1, 2005!

"Construction of shrine and temple buildings is not enough. Establish yourself as a living buddha image. We all should be transformed into goddesses of compassion or victorious buddhas."
from Art of Peace

I know I am the one copying sayings from the Art of Peace but this rule just plain pisses me off. There is only one God. I do not need to look any further than Jesus for a model of a peaceful center. If I offend any Buddhist, TOUGH!

Read on and fall sound asleep

Now that I am totally annoyed let me vent one more time. The woman that is doing the commercial for Coupon Suzy on TV has the most annoying high pitched chipmonky voice ever. I would send her a roll of duct tape if I knew her address. How did she ever get the job?

Once again we lost our internet connectivity. I am so disgusted with them I could scream but then I check around and find about equal levels of anger with the other ISPs. This time Comcast was quicker getting a service rep to our house. The guy came Saturday 7/26/2011 about 4:45 pm. He swapped connectors and, of course, took my cable modem out of service and put one from Comcast into service. The rent is $4 per month. I am being nickeled and dimed to death.

I left my Sunday School class early to drive one of the church vehicles to bring people to the 11 am service. I am glad I had an excuse to leave early. I am becoming more and more troubled by how the Methodists I know have turned God into a weak kneed wuzzy that is total love to everyone. How can they misread the words of Jesus, St. Paul, St Peter and others of the New Testament that talk of the judgment that will take place during the end times? I guess they expect the judging to be into really good and good. While I am grumping, these people also seem to buy into the insanity that belief in any religious idea is OK as long the belief is sincere.

My Gosh! James Whitmore looks so young in the movie on TCM. I am watching “The Next Voice You Hear”. His character hears God’s voice on the radio. I am taking a break to really watch this movie. Whatever you need to do get this movie and watch it! I have goose bumps! What would I do if I heard God?

Sunday “Pearls before Swine” had a perfect strip about how I think my blatherings are received. Yes, my name was mentioned. Pearls is one of my favorite strips.

The subject of Texas has come up several times in an internet group I belong to. I find that late in my life I have fallen head over heel in love with this state. It is hard to explain to someone who has never experienced Texas but Texas is a whole nother country. For most of my life I told people that Oregon was my heart home. After several bus trips back to Oregon I realized that I was in love with a memory only. My senior girl cousin sent me a video of images of Texas. Click HERE for the video.

11/20: Faithful God, help us to learn to lean on you, especially when life feels meaningless. Calm our troubled minds with your peace. Amen.
11/21: Dear Friend and Redeemer, help us to live in close relationship with you, and allow us to be instruments of your grace to others. Amen.
11/22: Dear God, tune our spirit to your leading and your will. We want to be your messengers today. Amen.
11/23: Giver of salvation, help us to be aware of those around us who do not know you. May we lovingly communicate your love to them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
11/24: Thank you, dear God, for giving us courage and strength. Walk with us each day, and call us to work that brings joy to your people. Amen.
11/25: Dear Lord, bless our homes so that those to whom we offer hospitality may feel your love. We pray as Jesus taught us, saying, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."* Amen. *Luke 11:2-4 (KJV).
11/26: Heavenly Father, help us to see situations as you see them. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
11/27: Beloved God, when life is going as we plan and when it is not, help us to yield ourselves to what you want to do in us and through us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
11/28: Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of salvation. Amen.

A rare delicacy is Sauteed Sloth. Using the middle toe of the great Australian three-toed sloth, the only edible part of that large, furry, indolent creature, the careful chef debones it, pounds it as with veal, and sautes it briefly over a hot flame with shallots, carrot circles, and just a touch of Tabasco.

Prepared in this fashion, sloth is an excellent main course, not unlike alligator in texture and taste. Many people are under the false impression that sloth does not make a good meal, but this is because they've eaten it improperly prepared. It can ONLY be sauteed, a fact unappreciated in culinary circles.

Too many cooks broil the sloth.

A tough old cowboy from Dillon, Montana, counseled his grandson that if he wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gun powder on his oatmeal every morning. The grandson did this religiously to the age of 103. When he died he left 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren, and a 15-foot hole where the crematorium used to be.

A woman calls her boss one morning and tells him that she is staying home because she is not feeling well. "What's the matter?" he asks.

"I have a case of anal glaucoma," she says in a weak voice.

"What the hell is anal glaucoma?"

"I can't see my ass coming into work today."
